COMMUNITY WORK

NEW HOPE COMMUNITY SERVICES (NHCS)

December 2019 - CURRENT

As part of their "Education of the Hearts" program, NHCS organizes monthly camps for children aged 4 to 16 year old, who needs role models who they can emulate positive traits and behaviors from.

My role during their monthly holistic character-building camps is to mentor children, in hope to be able to guide and mentor the children to become upstanding individuals of society through character-building games and bonding sessions with the ratio of 1 mentor to 5 children per month.

October 2019 - CURRENT

As a member of Keat Hong Youth Network, I am part of the grass roots leaders who organizes  and plans events in hoping to strengthen the relationship within the community. Furthermore, I represent the Keat Hong constituency.

During my time as a member, I was given the opportunity to be part of the planning team for 2019 Children's Camp, Halloween Fiesta, Grant A Wish, the planning head for 2020 Countdown Event, and to volunteer for other events such as packing of groceries during Chinese New Year for the low income, and to pack care packages for the front liners as part of the Front Liners Appreciation Project.

December 2019

In collaboration with New Hope Community Services, a group of 5 from Ngee Ann Polytechnic organized a 3 day 2 night camp for at risk youths as part of their Final Year Project.

I was invited to participate in this camp as a mentor, to assist the year 3s and to guide the children throughout the camp, with a total of 25 children aged 7 to 16.

Being given the opportunity of mentoring the 2 youths who needed the most attention gave me a huge challenge in managing a group of 5 youths. However, I left the camp with more appreciation for what I have, and more knowledge in handling youth at risk.

OVERSEAS TRIP

March 2017

In 2017, I was given the opportunity to travel to Chang Mai, Thailand for 5 days and 4 nights.

During my time there, I interacted with their local farmers, and got the opportunity to try out farming and planting rice crops. Additionally, we visited a local temple to assist them in washing and painting the walls. Lastly, we visited Bann San Hok Primary School, to educate them simple English through songs such as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Stars", engaged in games with them, and gave each of them a stationary set.
